Research title: Study on agronomical practices to grow soybean on sloping lands in spring season in Bac Kan province. Code: 62 62 01 01 Specialized in: Crop Sciences Graduate's name: Tran Van Dien Supervisors: 1. Prof. Dr of Sci. Acad. Tran Dinh Long 2. Ass. The new findings of the research:
There are 95.8% of households in Bac Kan province having sloping lands where soybean can be grown, but only 18.3% of households grow soybean in spring season with the low yield (about 9.9 ta/ha). The difficulties in the soybean production on sloping land in spring season are lacking of suitable soybean varieties for spring season, lacking of technical guideline for cultivation, drought and cold at the sowing time, high rainfall at the harvest time, and destruction of buffaloes due to free grazing.
The new soybean variety DT22, a high yield potential, good insect and disease resistance, especially maintaining high germination percentage during storage period at normal conditions in farmer households was identified to be suitable to grow on sloping lands in spring season in Bac Kan province.
A number of agronomical practices can improve the seed yield of soybean variety DT22 in spring season in Bac Kan, it consists of:
Sowing time: sow from middle to end of March,
Plant density: maintain the density of 30-40 plant/m2;
Chemical fertilizers: apply with the rate: 30 N + 90 P2O5 + 45 K2O + 300 kg lime;
Intercropping: intercropping with maize with the density 15000 Plants of maize/ha (3 plants of maize/2 m2);
Soil moisture and erosion control: cover the land surface by green materials (green manures), and control the soil erosion by natural vegetation contours.
